Author Guidelines

Authors are invited to submit their manuscripts to Matsnawi: Journal of Tasawwuf and Psychotherapy Studies. All submitted manuscripts will first be assessed by the Editor to determine whether they are relevant to the journal’s aims and scope, particularly in the fields of tasawwuf, Sufism, mysticism, psychotherapy, religious psychology, Islamic spirituality, mental health, and related interdisciplinary studies. Manuscripts considered suitable will be sent for peer review before a final editorial decision is made.

Before making a submission, authors are responsible for ensuring that their manuscript is original, has not been published elsewhere, and is not under consideration by another journal. Authors must also obtain permission to use any materials included in the manuscript, such as photographs, figures, tables, documents, interview excerpts, or datasets. All individuals listed as authors must have made a substantial contribution to the work and must agree to be identified as authors.

Where applicable, research involving human participants, interviews, clinical or therapeutic contexts, personal narratives, community-based data, or sensitive religious and psychological issues should be conducted in accordance with appropriate ethical standards. Authors are expected to follow the legal and institutional requirements of the country in which the study was conducted, including obtaining approval from an ethics committee or relevant authority when required.

The Editor may desk reject a manuscript that does not meet the journal’s minimum scholarly standards or falls outside its focus and scope. Before submitting, authors should ensure that the research problem, theoretical framework, methodology, analysis, and argument are clearly structured and properly articulated. The title should be concise and informative, while the abstract should be able to stand on its own by clearly presenting the purpose, method, main findings or arguments, and contribution of the manuscript.

Authors are also encouraged to ensure that their manuscript engages with relevant and up-to-date scholarly literature, uses accurate citations, and follows the journal’s author guidelines and template. A carefully prepared manuscript will increase the likelihood of passing the initial editorial screening and being accepted by reviewers for evaluation. When authors are satisfied that their submission meets these standards, they should follow the checklist below to prepare their submission.
