Peer Review Process

All articles published in Matsnawi: Journal of Tasawwuf and Psychotherapy Studies undergo a peer-review process. The review process begins with an initial editorial screening and plagiarism check, followed by a substantive review by at least two reviewers with relevant expertise.

Each submitted manuscript is evaluated based on the following criteria:

  • the originality of its contribution to the field;
  • the relevance of the manuscript to the journal’s focus and scope;
  • the soundness of its theoretical framework and methodology in relation to the topic;
  • the coherence of its analysis, discussion, and argumentation;
  • the adequacy and relevance of its references;
  • its clarity of communication, including grammar, academic style, and readability.

Following the initial screening and plagiarism check performed by the Editor, manuscripts that meet the journal’s basic requirements will be forwarded to at least two reviewers for peer review. Reviewers are selected based on their expertise, relevance to the manuscript’s subject area, independence, and absence of conflicts of interest. The peer-review process commonly takes two to four months. If revisions are required, additional time may be needed depending on how long the author takes to revise and resubmit the manuscript.

The selection, invitation, and assignment of peer reviewers are at the discretion of the Editor-in-Chief. Reviewers must have relevant expertise in the subject area of the manuscript. Reviewers should not be affiliated with the authors’ institution and should not have recent joint publications with any of the authors. Reviewers must not have any conflict of interest with respect to the research, the authors, or the funding sources of the research. If such conflicts exist, reviewers must immediately report them to the Editor-in-Chief.

Any selected reviewer who feels unqualified to review the manuscript or knows that a timely review will be impossible should notify the Editor-in-Chief without delay. Reviews must be conducted objectively. Personal criticism of the author is inappropriate. Reviewers should express their views clearly and provide supporting arguments. Any manuscript received for review must be treated as a confidential document.

Based on the reviewers’ comments and recommendations, the editorial decision may include acceptance, minor revision, major revision, resubmission for review, or rejection. The final decision on the manuscript is made by the Editor-in-Chief or the editorial team by considering the reviewers’ recommendations, the quality of the manuscript, its relevance to the journal’s scope, and its compliance with the journal’s publication ethics and author guidelines.

Authors are expected to revise their manuscripts according to the reviewers’ and editors’ comments. Revised manuscripts may be returned to the reviewers for further evaluation when necessary. Manuscripts that fail to meet the journal’s academic, ethical, or technical requirements may be rejected at any stage of the editorial process.
